Tying Our Relationships Together

Every relationship requires conscious effort to stay connected and avoid drifting apart. Much like tying a secure knot, consistently engaging in deep and meaningful conversations can strengthen the bond. Here are four conversations that can help tighten the knot in our marriages:

1. Spirit of Romance

For most couples the concept of romance really is the first thought of when they were originally falling in love with their spouse. Romance or eros as the Greeks called it is really only one feeling of love that we can bring to our marriages but it is an important one. Many after years of trials, raising kids and trying to make ends meet, tend to see their romance fade a bit. This conversation is a chance to respark and reconnect to the romance that has been in the marriage all along but isn’t always so easy to see.

2.   Spirit of Admiration

Admiration is something we can all feel when we are first in our relationships because there are usually so many fewer examples of what we don’t admire about our spouses,clogging our minds. By expressing what we admire about our partner we tell them that they do bring a unique set of traits and gifts that are appreciated and that we need in our marriage. People are usually more inclined to use and highlight things that are admired then things that aren’t admired.

3. Spirit of Compassion

Compassion or charity is the highest form of love humans can feel for one another. Compassion is where we care more about the well-being of another person as much or even more than we do for ourselves. Compassion also has the word, passion in it, so one of the ways to increase more passion in your marriages and lives would be to also increase your charity for one another. Charity at times is hard to feel but when we put our mind to it, we’re going to find it.

4. Spirit of Service

We love people that we serve and we eventually come to love more the people we serve more. What else could explain why a mother feels so much love and care for her children other than the fact that she serves them nonstop. Service is the most efficient way of falling in love at a deeper and deeper level.
